"Tucumcari Tonight" is the little town in New Mexico's slogan. Route 66 is alive and well on this beautifully lit neon stretch of the Mother Road. Including the crown jewel of neon signs, the loving restored Blue Swallow Motel.

Route 66 2016 ~ Tulsa? Where's Ponyboy?!!!

"The wonder is in the journey not the destination". Today's post will cover what is on the itinerary for our Route 66 adventure up until today. Before I left I scheduled some weekly posts about our trip and will share some stories and photos once we return.

As we drive Route 66 we try to take everything at a slower pace. Anywhere from 100 to 250 miles tops. Enjoy the drive. Enjoy the sites. Suck up the beauty around you. Lazy wanderers. It will be interesting to see how well this happens once the trip is over.

Our itinerary since we last met...
September 8th - Cuba, MO to Carthage, MO
September 9th - Carthage, MO to Tulsa, OK
September 10th - Tulsa, OK to Edmond, OK
September 11th - Edmond, OK to Shamrock, TX

Highlights of the section... The Wagon Wheel Motel in Cuba, The Boots Court motel in Carthage and of course the Twin Admiral Drive-In in Tulsa. As if getting to experience an old fashion Drive-In while on Route 66 wasn't exciting enough, this is the Drive-In that was used at the beginning of the 1983 movie The Outsiders. A personal favorite of mine as a young teen (both book and movie!) so I am very excited about this. Plus, I haven't been to a Drive-In in ages. Oooh, I feel a song coming on courtesy of Grease!

Join us again next time as we continue our adventures across the country.
Stay Gold!

Route 66 2016 - The Windy City

"Get your kicks on Route 66". And just like the song says we are getting our kicks on that old Mother Road. Today's post will cover what is on the itinerary for our Route 66 adventure up until today. Before I left I scheduled some weekly posts about our trip and will share some stories and photos once we return.

Our itinerary since we last checked in...
September 5th - Rockford, MI to Chicago, IL
September 6th - Chicago, IL to Litchfield, IL
September 7th - Litchfield, IL to Cuba, MO

We have now official started the Route 66 portion of the trip. Over 2,400 miles of vintage Americana. Some of the highlights of this section of the trip will be the beautiful windy city of Chicago and the kitschy fun of The Cozy Dog - Home of the Corn Dog. I mean really, how can you not be excited about the restaurant that invented the Corn Dog? *yum* And yes, there will be a T-Shirt bought!

Join us next time for the continuing adventure of "Chickses on Sixes".

Route 66 2016 - Hello Michigan!

Hello again. Today's post will cover what is on the itinerary for our Route 66 adventure up until today. Before I left I scheduled some weekly posts about our trip and will share some stories and photos once we return.

Today we arrive at Chandra's house in Michigan. This is our first visit to her house and to Michigan.

Our itinerary so far has been the following...
August 31 - Portland, OR to Butte, MT.
September 1 - Butte, MT to Jamestown,ND
September 2nd - Jamestown, ND to Minneapolis, MN
September 3rd - Minneapolis, MN to Mendota, IL
September 4th - Mendota, IL to Rockford, MI

The first two days will be made up of making miles! Long driving days but after that we slow a bit. Along the way we are picking up gifts to represent the different states we are driving through as a "thank you" gift for our Aunt and Uncle that are hosting a very quick get together as we stop for a few hours in Melrose, MN on the 2nd. So we will stop in Spokane, WA at Boo Radley's and Atticus Coffee. Wallace, ID for lunch and an Idaho gift. Wallace is where Dante lost his Peak for all you movie fans out there. Either ST. Regis Travel Stop or the 50,000 Dollar Saloon in Hagen for our Montana gift. Then Bismarck, ND for dinner at the always fun Rock'n 50's Cafe and to pick up a North Dakota gift. And of course you can't go through North Dakota with out making a quick stop to see Salem Sue.

Salem Sue - New Salem, MT  2014

On the 3rd we take a breather and have some fun in Minneapolis, MN. A great town to hangout and have fun in! We will be meeting up with Miss Cat from Deep Midnight Perfumes and her husband John. Two of the nicest people you could ever meet. We will be dinning, I mean experiencing, Hell's Kitchen in the Nicollete Mall area of Minneapolis. Plus we get to stay at the vintage beauty that is The Foshay Tower. Once the tallest building in Minnesota. Now a beautiful hotel that has a retro vibe. What's that? A bar called Prohibition?

Our visit with Cat and John in July and the infamous Psycho Suzi's.

Join us next time to see where we are at next!
Until then... Happy Trails.
